Gyeon Q2 CanCoat EVO: Ceramic Protection in an Afternoon
A full ceramic coating is a weekend project at minimum. The paint has to be corrected, wiped down, coated panel by panel, and left inside overnight. It is worth it, and it is the protection work we are known for, but there are a lot of cars and a lot of owners for whom that is more than the situation calls for. A daily driver that gets washed every couple of weeks. A lease. A second car. An owner who wants the car to bead and stay clean and does not want to give up a weekend.
Gyeon Q2 CanCoat EVO is the product I point those owners to. It is a true SiO2 based ceramic coating in a spray bottle, applied with a towel in about the time it takes to apply a spray wax. Gyeon rates it at up to 12 months.

What Gyeon Q2 CanCoat EVO is
CanCoat EVO is a 200 ml bottle of SiO2 ceramic coating designed to be sprayed onto the included microfiber towel and wiped into the surface. Gyeon built it to be the fastest way to put a real ceramic layer on a car. The box comes with the bottle, three spray heads, and one microfiber towel.
Gyeon lists consumption at 10 to 15 ml per car, so one bottle covers a car many times over. The coating tolerates pH 2 to 11, the same range as Gyeon's full coatings, so normal wash chemicals will not strip it. Durability is rated at up to 12 months or 12,000 km, and Gyeon describes it as a yearly coating. That is the right way to think about it. Apply it once in spring, and again the following spring.
It goes on almost every exterior surface. Paint, plastic trim, headlamps, paint protection film, wheels, exhaust tips, and glass are all on Gyeon's list. That versatility is a big part of the appeal. One bottle and one towel handle the whole outside of the car.
Gyeon is specific about how it is meant to be applied. It is designed to be wiped in quickly and have the excess removed immediately. It is not designed for heavy cross hatched, overlapping passes. Treat it like a spray wax with a ceramic result and it behaves.
Spray ceramic coating vs a full ceramic coating
This is the question behind most of the emails I get about CanCoat, so here is the honest answer.
A full coating like Gyeon Q2 Mohs EVO is a thicker layer of a harder chemistry, a fluorine modified polysilazane. Gyeon rates one layer at up to 36 months and two layers at up to 48. It gives the highest gloss, the strongest chemical resistance, and the best long term slickness. It also demands the most from the surface under it. The paint should be corrected first, because the coating locks in whatever it covers, and the panels have to be chemically clean. For a careful owner that is a weekend.
A spray ceramic like CanCoat EVO is a thinner SiO2 layer rated for a year. It gives real water beading, real gloss, and real protection from UV and chemical exposure, and Gyeon states plainly that it outperforms any wax or sealant. It does not last three years or build the same depth. It still needs clean paint, but the prep is a wash, a decontamination, and a wipe down.
The way I explain it is this. Mohs EVO is for the car you want to protect for the long term and are willing to prep properly. CanCoat EVO is for the car you want protected this weekend. Both are real ceramic coatings.
There is one more use people overlook. CanCoat EVO goes over an existing coating. If your car has a full coating that is a couple of years in and the water behavior is fading, a layer of CanCoat EVO brings the beading back for the season without redoing the base coating.

How to prep a car for CanCoat EVO
A spray coating still bonds to the paint, so the paint has to be clean. This is the part that separates a coating that lasts a year from one that fades by fall.
Start with a proper wash. Two buckets, pH neutral shampoo, top down, and a full rinse. Then decontaminate. Run your hand over the paint in a plastic bag after the wash. If it feels gritty, bonded contamination is sitting on the clear coat, and the coating will bond to the contamination, then let go when the contamination does. The Detailer's Domain Clay Sponge with plenty of lubricant removes overspray, sap, and rail dust, rinses clean, and can be used many times. Work on cool paint out of direct sun and keep it wet.
Dry the car completely. An Autofiber Dreadnought laid flat and pulled will do the whole car. Any water left in a seam will run out onto a panel you just coated.
Then wipe every panel with Nanolex EX. This strips the oils, old wax, and polish residue that would otherwise sit between the coating and the paint. It is the step people skip, and it is the step that decides whether you get a year.
How to apply CanCoat EVO
Work inside or in the shade on a cool panel. Fold the included microfiber into quarters and put two or three sprays on it. Wipe the product into a section, roughly half a hood at a time, in straight overlapping strokes. Then flip to a clean, dry microfiber and wipe the excess off immediately. Do not let it sit and flash.
Move around the car one section at a time and check each one from a low angle under good light before moving on. If you see a streak, buff it again with the dry towel right away. A high spot caught in the first minute wipes off. A high spot found the next day needs a fresh application of CanCoat to reactivate it, then a wipe.
Do the trim, the headlamps, the wheels, and the glass with the same towel and the same motion. Give the car a few hours before it sees water and keep it out of rain overnight. Skip the first wash for a week if you can.
Looking after it through the year
A CanCoat EVO car washes easily. Rinse first, foam, then a light two bucket wash. Most of the road film comes off before the mitt touches the car. Dry it fully every time. Water spots are the enemy of every coating, and a thin coating has less to give.
The coating is rated for up to 12 months, and around here the year is really about winter. Salt and brine sitting on the car for weeks at a time will shorten the life of any coating. Rinse the car when the temperature allows, wash properly when you can, and do not let salt dry on the paint for a month.
When the beading starts to slow down, the car is telling you it is time. Wash, decontaminate if needed, wipe with EX, and reapply. That afternoon is the entire maintenance schedule.

An afternoon well spent
Most cars will never get a full paint correction and a three year coating, and they do not need one. They need to be clean, protected, and easy to wash, and CanCoat EVO gets them there in an afternoon with a wash, a clay sponge, a wipe with EX, and a towel. It works, and it asks very little of you.
